Jan Maria Rokita, MP and leader of the Platforma Obywatelska (Civic Platform) party in the Polish parliment, visited the LSE for a lecture and discussion on the current state, problems and future of Poland. With approval ratings for the current government plummeting in the face of corruption scandals in Poland and a imminent parliment and presidential ellections, Mr Rokita spoke about what changes need to be implemented and who would be best-placed to carry them out in the near future. Mr Rokita very carefully outlined the political and economic problems Poland must overcome in order to lower the rate of unemployment, contain corruption in the government, make the judicial system more efficient, as well as win back the confidence of Polish citizens. The lecture was followed by a dinner with some of our LSE SU Polish Society members.
